Hoy, estaba estudiando los Diez Mandamientos.

Me recordo de este discurso por nuestro profeta, Presidente Thomas S. Monson, en la Conferencia General pasada.

El cito un articulo reciente del Wall Street Journal por el rabino jefe del Reino Unido, Jonathan Sacks. El dice:

“En prácticamente toda sociedad occidental hubo una revolución moral en la década de los años 60, un abandono de toda su ética tradicional de autocontrol. Los Beatles cantaban: ‘Todo lo que necesitas es amor’. Se desechó el código moral judeocristiano y en su lugar surgió [el dicho]: [Haz] lo que sea que a ti te venga bien. Los diez mandamientos se volvieron a escribir como las Diez Sugerencias Creativas”.

...

“Hemos dilapidado nuestro capital moral con el mismo abandono imprudente que hemos derrochado nuestro capital económico…

Hay muchas partes [del mundo] donde la religión es algo del pasado y no existe una voz compensatoria a la cultura de cómpralo, gástalo, úsalo y haz alarde de ello, porque te lo mereces. El mensaje es que la moralidad está pasada de moda, la conciencia es para los débiles y el único mandato preponderante es: ‘No permitirás que te descubran’”¹.

Presidente Monson luego dice, [Y me encanta esta parte]

"Mis hermanos y hermanas, esto, lamentablemente, describe gran parte del mundo que nos rodea. ¿Retorcemos las manos en desesperación y nos preguntamos cómo sobreviviremos en un mundo como éste? No; tenemos el evangelio de Jesucristo en nuestras vidas y sabemos que la moralidad no está pasada de moda, que nuestra conciencia está allí para guiarnos y que somos responsables por nuestras acciones.

Aunque el mundo haya cambiado, las leyes de Dios permanecen constantes; no han cambiado; no cambiarán. Los Diez Mandamientos son exactamente eso: mandamientos; no son sugerencias. Son un requisito en todos los aspectos hoy como lo fueron cuando Dios se los dio a los hijos de Israel. Si sólo escuchamos, oiremos el eco de la voz de Dios hablándonos aquí y ahora:

“No tendrás dioses ajenos delante de mí.

“No te harás imagen… de cosa alguna…

“No tomarás el nombre de Jehová tu Dios en vano…

“Acuérdate del día del reposo para santificarlo…

“Honra a tu padre y a tu madre…

“No matarás.

“No cometerás adulterio.

“No hurtarás.

“No dirás… falso testimonio.

“No codiciarás…”².          [Exodo 20:3-4, 7-8, 12-17]

Nuestro código de conducta es definitivo; no es negociable. Se encuentra no sólo en los Diez Mandamientos sino también en el Sermón del Monte que el Señor nos dio cuando vivía sobre la tierra. Se encuentra a lo largo de Sus enseñanzas; se encuentra en las palabras de la revelación moderna."

Estoy agradecida por muchas cosas esta semana, pero hoy estoy especialmente agradecida por los Diez Mandamientos. Estoy agradecido de que tenemos un Padre Celestial que nos ama y que nos muestra su amor al darnos los mandamientos, lo que, si seguimos, traen bendiciones en nuestras vidas que ni siquiera podia imaginar.
Estoy agradecida por el Evangelio restaurado de Jesucristo. Estoy agradecida de que tenemos un profeta viviente, llamado por Dios, en la tierra y que nos guía y nos da la revelación moderna.
Pero en realidad, mas que todo, hoy y siempre, estoy bien agradecida por nuestro Senor y Salvador Jesucristo. Por la oportunidad y la gran bendicion que tengo que conocerle y servirle.

Today I was studying. And my study lead me to the Ten Commandments.

I was reminded of this talk by our prophet, President Thomas S. Monson, in this most recent General Conference.
He quoted a recent Wall Street Journal article by Britain's cheif rabbi, Jonathan Sacks. Who says:

“In virtually every Western society in the 1960s there was a moral revolution, an abandonment of its entire traditional ethic of self-restraint. All you need, sang the Beatles, is love. The Judeo-Christian moral code was jettisoned. In its place came [the adage]: [Do] whatever works for you. The Ten Commandments were rewritten as the Ten Creative Suggestions.”

...

“We have been spending our moral capital with the same reckless abandon that we have been spending our financial capital. …

“There are large parts of [the world] where religion is a thing of the past and there is no counter-voice to the culture of buy it, spend it, wear it, flaunt it, because you’re worth it. The message is that morality is passé, conscience is for wimps, and the single overriding command is ‘Thou shalt not be found out.’”¹

President Monson then goes on to say, [This is the part that I love.]

"My brothers and sisters, this—unfortunately—describes much of the world around us. Do we wring our hands in despair and wonder how we’ll ever survive in such a world? No. Indeed, we have in our lives the gospel of Jesus Christ, and we know that morality is not passé, that our conscience is there to guide us, and that we are responsible for our actions.

Although the world has changed, the laws of God remain constant. They have not changed; they will not change. The Ten Commandments are just that—commandments. They are not suggestions. They are every bit as requisite today as they were when God gave them to the children of Israel. If we but listen, we hear the echo of God’s voice, speaking to us here and now:

“Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

“Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image. …

“Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain. …

“Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. …

“Honour thy father and thy mother. …

“Thou shalt not kill.

“Thou shalt not commit adultery.

“Thou shalt not steal.

“Thou shalt not bear false witness. …

“Thou shalt not covet.”²     [Exodus 20:3-4, 7-8, 12-17]

Our code of conduct is definitive; it is not negotiable. It is found not only in the Ten Commandments but also in the Sermon on the Mount, given to us by the Savior when He walked upon the earth. It is found throughout His teachings. It is found in the words of modern revelation."

I'm grateful for a lot of things this week, but today I'm especially grateful for the Ten Commandments. I'm thankful that we have a Heavenly Father who loves us and that shows us His love by giving us commandments, which, if we keep, bring blessings into our lives that we couldn't even imagine.
I'm grateful for the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ. I'm thankful that we have a living prophet, called of God, on the Earth and that he guides us and gives us modern revelation.
But really, more than everything, today and always, I'm thankful for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. For the opportunity and great blessing that I have to know Him and serve Him.

Bueno. Por lo general, soy una persona bien indecisa.
De verdad.
Yo soy el tipo de persona que desea que la unica decision que ha tenido que tomar es que tipo de preparacion para poner en su ensalada.

Pero aqui estoy. En la mision.

Entonces, si tengo el tiempo mas dificil del mundo la toma de decisiones,
¿Como llegue aqui?
Confie en mi, a veces me pregunto la misma pregunta.
Cada dia.
Porque me sorprende.

Le podria decir que siempre era un plan que tenia.
Pero no fue asi.
Le podria decir que era porque habia misioneros que ensenaron a mi familia.
Pero eso no es todo.
Le podria decir un millon de razones diferentes--falsa o verdadera.
Pero todo realmente se reduce a una sola respuesta.
Estoy aqui porque yo confio en el plan que mi Padre Celestial tiene para mi personalmente. Y que el plan incluye que yo este aqui. Exactamente donde El me necesita.
Vamos a ser honestos.
A veces pienso que es sin duda una prueba de fe para dar todos los pasos que se requiere.
Pero una vez alguien me dijo que debiamos esperar el milagro. No la prueba de nuestra fe.
Ser sorprendido cuando las cosas van mal. No cuando van bien.
Y luego, cuando van mal, podemos tener confianza en que, de todos modos, todo es parte del Plan.

Estaba leyendo este discourso, de la Conferencia General mas reciente, por el Elder Robert D. Hales del quorum de los doce apostoles. Y esta parte me llamo la atencion. [Yo se que esta largo, pero tambien yo se que es bien bonita.]

Yo se que nuestro Padre Celestial tiene un plan para mi. Y se que El tiene un plan para usted. Y para cada uno de Sus hijos.
A veces solo nos toma un tiempo para averiguar lo que es. O aceptar su voluntad sobre la nuestra. O creer que nuestras pruebas nos hacen mas fuertes.
Pero se que se puede hacer.
Y confie en mi, no soy perfecta. Pero he llegado a saber que vivendo con sus imperfecciones es mucho mas facil cuando usted sabe el cuadro grande.
[... o si no lo puedo ver, al menos, sabemos que si, hay uno. Le prometo.]

Ok. So I'm generally an indecisive person.
But really.
I'm the kind of person who wishes that the only decision they ever had to make is what kind of dressing to put on their salad.
[..because sometimes that's a big deal...]

But here I am, on a mission.

So, if I have the world's hardest time making decisions,
how did I get here?
Trust me, sometimes I ask myself that same question.
Multiple times a day.
Because it amazes me so much.

I could tell you that it was always a plan I had.
But it wasn't.
I could tell you that it was because missionaries taught my family.
But that's not all of it.
I could tell you a million different reasons--fake or true.
But it all really comes down to one answer.
I'm here because I trust in the plan that my Heavenly Father has for me personally. And that plan includes me being here. Exactly where He needs me.
Let's be honest.
Sometimes I think that it's definitely a trial of faith to take every step that's required.
But someone once told me that we should expect the miracle. Not the trial of our faith.
Be suprised when things go wrong. Not when they go right.
And then, when they do go wrong, we can have confidence that it's all part of The Plan anyway.

I was reading this talk from this past General Conference by Elder Robert D. Hales of the quorum of the twelve apostles and this part called my attention. [I know it's long. But it's great.]

I know that our Heavenly Father has a plan for me. And I know that He has a plan for you. And for every single one of His children.
Sometimes it just takes us a while to figure out what it is. Or to accept His will over ours. Or believe that our trials will make us stronger.
But I know that it can be done.
And trust me, I'm not perfect. But I've come to find that living with your imperfections is a lot easier when you know the big picture.
[...or if you can't quite see it, at least know that there is one. I promise.]

I have often pondered, Why is it that the Son of God and His holy prophets and all the faithful Saints have trials and tribulations, even when they are trying to do Heavenly Father’s will? Why is it so hard, especially for them?

I think about Joseph Smith, who suffered illness as a boy and persecution throughout his life. Like the Savior, he cried out, “O God, where art thou?”¹¹ Yet even when he was seemingly alone, he exercised his agency to wait upon the Lord and carry out his Heavenly Father’s will.

I think of our pioneer forebears, driven from Nauvoo and crossing the plains, exercising their agency to follow a prophet even as they suffered sickness, privation, and some even death. Why such terrible tribulation? To what end? For what purpose?

As we ask these questions, we realize that the purpose of our life on earth is to grow, develop, and be strengthened through our own experiences. How do we do this? The scriptures give us an answer in one simple phrase: we “wait upon the Lord.”¹² Tests and trials are given to all of us. These mortal challenges allow us and our Heavenly Father to see whether we will exercise our agency to follow His Son. He already knows, and we have the opportunity to learn, that no matter how difficult our circumstances, “all these things shall [be for our] experience, and … [our] good.”¹³

Does this mean we will always understand our challenges? Won’t all of us, sometime, have reason to ask, “O God, where art thou?”¹⁴ Yes! When a spouse dies, a companion will wonder. When financial hardship befalls a family, a father will ask. When children wander from the path, a mother and father will cry out in sorrow. Yes, “weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.”¹⁵ Then, in the dawn of our increased faith and understanding, we arise and choose to wait upon the Lord, saying, “Thy will be done.”¹⁶

What, then, does it mean to wait upon the Lord? In the scriptures, the word wait means to hope, to anticipate, and to trust. To hope and trust in the Lord requires faith, patience, humility, meekness, long-suffering, keeping the commandments, and enduring to the end.

To wait upon the Lord means planting the seed of faith and nourishing it “with great diligence, and … patience.”¹⁷

It means praying as the Savior did—to God, our Heavenly Father—saying: “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done.”¹⁸ It is a prayer we offer with our whole souls in the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Waiting upon the Lord means pondering in our hearts and “receiv[ing] the Holy Ghost” so that we can know “all things what [we] should do.”¹⁹

As we follow the promptings of the Spirit, we discover that “tribulation worketh patience”²⁰ and we learn to “continue in patience until [we] are perfected.”²¹

Muchas veces he reflexionado preguntándome: ¿Por qué tienen pruebas y tribulaciones el Hijo de Dios, Sus santos profetas y todos los santos fieles aun cuando tratan de hacer la voluntad del Padre Celestial? ¿Por qué es tan difícil, especialmente para ellos?
Pienso en José Smith, que sufrió enfermedades cuando era niño y persecución durante toda su vida. Igual que el Salvador, él también exclamó: “Oh Dios, ¿en dónde estás?”¹¹. Sin embargo, aun cuando parecía estar solo, ejerció su albedrío para esperar en el Señor y llevar a cabo la voluntad de su Padre Celestial.
Pienso en nuestros antepasados pioneros, expulsados de Nauvoo y atravesando las praderas, ejerciendo su albedrío para seguir a un profeta a pesar de sufrir enfermedades, privaciones e incluso, algunos, la muerte. ¿Por qué tan terrible tribulación? ¿Con qué fin? ¿Con qué propósito?

Al hacernos esas preguntas, nos damos cuenta de que el propósito de nuestra vida terrenal es crecer, desarrollarnos y fortalecernos por medio de nuestras propias experiencias. ¿Y cómo lo hacemos? Las Escrituras nos dan la respuesta en una sencilla frase: nosotros “espera[mos] en Jehovᔹ². A todos se nos dan pruebas y aflicciones; estas dificultades del ser mortal nos demuestran, a nosotros y a nuestro Padre Celestial, si somos o no capaces de ejercer el albedrío para seguir a Su Hijo. Él ya lo sabe y nosotros tenemos la oportunidad de aprender que, no obstante lo difícil de nuestras circunstancias, “todas estas cosas [nos] servirán de experiencia, y serán para [nuestro] bien”¹³.
¿Quiere decir que siempre entenderemos nuestras dificultades? ¿No tendremos todos, de vez en cuando, razón para preguntar: “Oh Dios, ¿en dónde estás?”¹⁴. ¡Sí! Cuando muere un cónyuge, su compañero se hará la pregunta; cuando una familia sufre privación económica, el jefe de familia se la hará también; cuando los hijos se apartan del camino, la madre y el padre la exclamarán con dolor. Sí, “Por la noche durará el llanto, y a la mañana vendrá la alegría”¹⁵. Entonces, en el amanecer de mayor fe y entendimiento, nos levantaremos para esperar en el Señor diciendo: “Hágase tu voluntad”¹⁶.
Entonces, ¿qué quiere decir esperar en el Señor? En las Escrituras, la palabra esperar significa tener esperanza, aguardar y confiar. Tener esperanza y confianza en el Señor requiere fe, paciencia, humildad, mansedumbre, conformidad, guardar los mandamientos y perseverar hasta el fin.
Esperar en el Señor significa plantar la semilla de la fe y nutrirla “con gran diligencia y paciencia”¹⁷.
Significa orar como lo hizo el Salvador, a Dios, nuestro Padre Celestial, diciendo: “Venga tu reino. Hágase tu voluntad”¹⁸. Es una oración que ofrecemos con toda nuestra alma, en el nombre de nuestro Salvador Jesucristo.
Esperar en el Señor significa meditarlo en nuestro corazón y “reci[bir] el Espíritu Santo para saber “todas las cosas que deb[emos] hacer”¹⁹.
Al seguir las impresiones del Espíritu, descubrimos que “la tribulación produce paciencia”²⁰ y aprendemos a “continua[r] con paciencia hasta perfeccionar[nos]”²¹.

I may be the last one in the world to blog about this, but even though it's late,

it's more than worth it.

This talk by President Dieter F. Uchtdorf really has made a difference in my life.

It's reminded me that everything that we do in this life is for our happiness. Not the happiness that the world thinks, but the happiness that our loving Heavenly Father has for us. Everything that He has commanded is for our good. And if we do them, we can reach the incredible goal that He has for every one of us---eternal life.

And I know that when we're patient with ourselves, make good sacrifices, when we're happy, when we remember the 'why' of the gospel, and especially, when we remember that God loves us, we can have all the things that He wants us to have.

Tal vez soy la ultima persona que va a blog acerca de este, pero aunque esta tarde,
tiene mucho valor.

"No se olviden de ser pacientes con ustedes mismas.  
"No olviden la diferencia que existe entre un buen sacrificio y un sacrificio absurdo. 
"No se olviden de ser felices ahora. 
"No olviden el “porqué" del Evangelio. 
"No olviden que el Señor las ama."

Este discourso por el Presidente Dieter F. Uchtdorf ha hecho una diferencia en mi vida. 
Me ha recordado que todas las cosas que hacemos en esta vida son por nuestro felicidad. No es la felicidad que el mundo piensa. Pero es la felicidad que nuestro amoroso Padre Celestial tiene por nosotros. Todas las cosas que El ha mandado son por nuestro beneficio. Y si las hacemos, podemos alcanzar la meta que El tiene por cada uno de nosotros, Sus hijos---la vida eterna.


Y se que cuando somos pacientes con nosotros mismos, hacemos buen sacrificios, cuando somos felices, cuando recordamos el 'porque' del Evangelio, y especialmente, cuando recordamos que Dios nos ama, podemos tener las cosas que Dios quiere que tengamos.

usted es importante. [you matter.]

En caso de que fuera como yo y vio la Conferencia General en una idioma que no es su lengua materna, tal vez usted  haber perdido esta pequena joya.

"...El Ser mas poderoso en el universo es el Padre de su espíritu. Que le conoce. El le ama con un amor perfecto.

"Dios ve no solo como un ser mortal en un pequeno planeta que vive para una breve estacion--El lo ve como su hijo. El lo ve como el ser que es capaz y esta disenado para llegar a ser. El quiere que usted sepa que usted le importa."

Estoy totalmente culpable de este. A veces olvido.
Pero todas las veces que se me olvide, estoy aqui para decirles que yo se que tenemos un Padre Celestial. Y que El nos ama mas de lo que sea posible, o sera capaz de imaginar. El nos conoce. El sabe donde estamos. Lo que estamos haciendo. Quienes somos y lo que podemos llegar a ser. Y El sabe como ayudarnos.
Deje que El le ayuda. Yo voy a hacerlo. Porque somos importantes.
Usted es importante.

"God sees you not only as a mortal being on a small planet who lives for a brief season—He sees you as His child. He sees you as the being you are capable and designed to become. He wants you to know that you matter to Him."

I'm totally a culprit of this. Sometimes I forget.
But as many times as I forget, I'm here to tell you that I know that we have a Heavely Father. And that He loves us more than we can possibly, or will ever possibly be able to imagine. He knows who we are. Where we are. What we are doing. Who and what we can become. And how to help us.
So let Him. I'm going to. Because we matter.
You matter.

somos diferentes. [we're different. and that's ok.]

Ayer, la Hermana Dodge y yo fuimos a la tienda.
Ella compro una falda. Yo compre uno tambien.

Ellas no podian ser mas diferentes.

Cinco minutos luego, estabamos manejando en el carro y ella me dijo,
"Estoy agredecida que somos differentes."

Es interesante que todos somos diferentes, no?

Algunos de nosotros nos gusta azul o rojo o verde. Pero yo? A mi me gusta gris. Algunos de nosotros nos gusta helado chocolate y algunos les gusta helado de fresas. Algunos de nosotros son rubios, pero hay que tienen pelo cafe o pelirrojo, y hay mas que tienen las canas. Hay algunos que son de Tennessee, Utah, China, Guatemala, India, Argentina, Samoa, Sweden y algunos de nosotros somos de California. Algunos le gusta la sandia. Pero hay de nosotros que tienen alergia a la sandia. Pero la mejor parte es, nada de eso nos hace mejor que nadie.

Todos somos hijos de Dios. y "el valor de las almas es grande a la vista de [El]."  [Doctrina y Convenios 18:10]

Tenemos un amoroso Padre Celestial quien nos ha dado differentes cosas que nos gustan y no nos gustan. El nos ha puesto en diferentes partes del mundo. El nos ha dado diferentes familias, diferentes origenes y diferentes vidas.

Y por que?
Para que todo de nostros podamos ayudar unos a otros en el camino de regreso a El.

Entonces, use su personalidad. Sus peculiaridades. Sus talentos.
Ellos son lo que usted es.
Y nuestro Padre Celestial le necesita.
El necesita que usted use lo que El le ha dado y edificar Su reino.

Yesterday, Hermana Dodge and I went to the store.
She bought a skirt. So did I.
They could not be more different.
5 minutes later, we were driving in the car and she turns to me and says,
"I'm glad that we're different."

It's interesting how we're all so different isn't it?

Some of us like blue or red or green. But me? I like gray. Some of us like chocolate ice cream and some of us like strawberry. Some of us are blonde, while some are brunettes or red-heads, while still some of us have gray hair. Some of us are from Tennesse, Utah, China, Guatemala, India, Argentina, Samoa, Sweden and some of us are from California. Some of us like watermelon. But some of us are allergic to it. But the best part is, none of that makes us any better than anyone else.  

We're all still children of God. And "the worth of souls is great in the sight of [Him]." [Doctrine and Convenants 18:10]

We have a loving Heavenly Father who has given us different likes and dislikes. He's placed us in different parts of the world. He's given us different families, different backgrounds and different lives.

And why?

So we can all help each other on our way back to him.

So use your personality. Your quirks. Your talents.

They're what make you, you.

And your Heavenly Father needs your help.

He needs you to use what He's given you and build His kingdom.

Se que aunque esta cancion esta en Ingles, todavia puede senir el espiritu.

Tambien, yo se que Jesucristo es mi Salvador. Y que El nos conoce. El nos ama tanto y El dio su vida por nosotros, para que podamos regresar a la presencia de El y nuestro Padre Celestial. Yo se que si no fuera por El, no podriamos ser salvos. 

El esta feliz cuando estamos felices, y El llora con nostros cuando lloramos. El quiere que tengamos vidas llenas de amor y gozo. Esto es por que tenemos Su iglesia restaurada otra vez en la tierra. La misma iglesia que El establicio. Y se que al seguir Su ejemplo y tratar y vivir como El, podemos tener gozo en nuestras vidas dia tras dia.
